Peace. Justice. Beauty - One planet, One people

Global finances are in chaos, the Earth is in meltdown. We're losing our savings, our homes, our water and our planet. Water Not War sees these tragedies as profoundly linked, born of a fundamentally unbalanced system, based largely on shortsighted selfishness..
It is indeed ‘time for a change’, but not mere tinkering - serious times require serious action. Real change will bring genuine happiness, but only with genuine, day-by-day, commitment. In the current climate, this means laughing at the latest gadget and fashion, using oil, water and food more intelligently and reverently, zapping the advertisers with the mute button, etc., to support - and enjoy - transformation instead, challenging the pollutocrats that are destroying our homes and our planet. There are many thousands of humanscale, people-based initiatives already working to build a different future, sane, intelligent, beautiful. By linking a build-down in armaments to water security for all, the Water Not War campaign contributes to their weaving together into a genuinely new world order, based on fair trade, peacemaking and environmental justice.
We are one people, one planet. The future - of the children, ourselves, the planet - depends on us taking this seriously. As seriously as the warmongers take war.
Therefore, please join us in the following cry of humanity, of the Earth itself. Sign on; have it endorsed by your local, national and international representatives; by your congregation, groups, organizations; diseminate it widely via websites, news outlets, and in as many other ways as you can think of:
"We the People and Peoples of this our One World, call on our employees,
the governments of our tiny, fragile and ravaged planet, to commit 1% of all
military budgets to provide everyone on Earth with sweet water.
1% not just of money and materials, but also - and crucially - of the
creative human lives and physical energies now absorbed in designing ever
more sophisticated weapons and waging ever more appalling war."

Can you imagine the effects of this simple measure?
a) A major contribution to the vital re-greening of the planet, with the resultant slowing of global warming and the re-stimulation of the biodiversity on which all our lives depend
b) A vast increase in people's health, with all that means in terms of better family life, increased economic productivity, huge savings in health care costs, the liberation of medical personnel to take on the great pandemics, to do research, etc.
c) Incalculable savings in money, materials, and, above all, human, animal and plant lives through the prevention of otherwise inevitable wars over water
d) Millions of new 'green' jobs in every country, at every level
e) A vital psychological turning point for humanity: the beginnings of a build-down in weapons and war
f) The opportunity for everyone, but particularly soldiers, military scientists, engineers and others absorbed in weapons and war, to get out into the air, planting trees, re-claiming watersheds, laying pipes, turning taps, dancing with impoverished peoples as sweet water arrives, and many other lovely things
g) The development of a model of global cooperation to apply to other common concerns

How do we do it? Take Einstein's advice and build an Obama-style movement!:

e) Raise funds - sponsored plant-ins, clean-ups, walks, swims, rides, donations, pledges, water-is-gold ceremonies, collections, festivals, concerts, water fights, naked pool parties, invasions of reflecting pool and other celebrated bodies of water.
f) Don't re-invent the many wheels already out there: link into as many pre-existing networks as possible.
More suggestions?? Please send them to echoespaul at tortillaconsal.com - Thanks
